Your Life Movie: What Scenes Are You Projecting?

Movies… they bring up some really great memories and feelings for me. I really do simply love watching them.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a thing for watching movies which is something which was instilled in me a long looooong time ago when I was just a little girl.  You see, my Dad had a thing for movies and when I say he loved them, he LOOOVED them and was incredibly proud of his over 2000 video recorded movies!

But the thing that was so special for me growing up was our tradition of Sunday night movies … AT HOME!  We literally converted our lounge into a “movie theatre” with my Dad’s reel-to-reel projector and pull-up screen – it was all so organised and professional!  So we’d settle in for the movie of the night which was anything from a good old Western with Clint Eastwood or John Wayne to saga movies like Gone with the Wind!  I was always captivated by the characters and costumes and really lived into the movies even if, most times, I didn’t quite make it to the end – come to think of it, nothing has changed on that score!  But there were the extremely frustrating times when the actual tape would break and of course no more movie!

Handy as my Dad was, it would sometimes take forever for him to “splice” the tape which was a process of joining the two ends together as seamlessly as possible so that we could continue watching – one thing you learn very quickly when that happens is that no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot see what’s on those reels if the pictures aren’t being projected onto the screen.  And furthermore, only what has been pre-recorded onto that tape is projected onto the screen.  So, that often captivating and fascinating finished product may have had several “takes” before being signed off as “finis”.  The producers, if not 100% happy with the movie, would have called back the cast for an “action replay” until they had recorded that (hopefully) huge hit!

Play along with me here and let’s take this a step further.  Let’s imagine the story of our lives as a movie.  Are you watching a premier with a star-studded line up with you as the lead?  Or is it a long repetitive story of the same things being played out year after year?  You see, all of our thoughts, our fundamental beliefs and our perceptions are reflected in our habits, our choices and the patterns and outcomes we see in our lives.  The million dollar question then is … do you like what is being played out in your relationships, your work/career, your finances and all those special-to-you areas in your life?  Or, are you watching the same self defeating scenes playing like a worn-out, perhaps even broken tape, weary and disappointed and merely going through the motions?

I urge you to take some time to really find out what you are producing – are your thoughts and beliefs serving you well and setting you up for that life and future you dream of, or are they keeping you in that downward spiral of self-limiting, self-defeating patterns?

I don’t know about you, but I’m working at my story being captivating, thrilling, inspiring, and significant!  And the exhilarating thing is … it’s all up to me!
